 What does this lump on the wrist or other joint mean?

When a lump appears on the wrist, the back of the hand, the fingers, or even the knees and feet, it is most often an  abnormal accumulation of synovial fluid . This fluid is responsible for lubricating the joints, but in some cases it can leak out and form a small sac or cyst.
