Melissa sat on the sidewalk handcuffed next to the man in the video.

Eric was nearby talking to two detectives; his face was pale.

When he saw me walking towards the house, he froze.

“Sarah,” he said softly. “What are you doing here?”

One of the detectives turned towards me.

Mrs. Mitchell?

Yeah.

I’m Detective Carlos Ramirez. Your call started this investigation.

Eric’s expression went colorless.

“Did you call the police?”

I looked directly at him.

Yeah.

He shook his head slowly. “You don’t understand what you’ve done.”

“No,” I replied calmly. “You won’t.”

Detective Ramirez came between us.

Sir, we have located a chemistry lab in your basement. We need you to answer a few questions.

Eric rubbed his forehead. “This isn’t what it looks like.”

“I’m glad,” Ramírez said calmly. “Because it seems like a serious crime.”

Suddenly Melissa screamed from the sidewalk.

“It’s not Eric’s fault!”

The officers ignored her.
