I returned home one Tuesday to a silence that felt like a physical weight. My sons were sitting on the couch, their bodies rigid, looking at me like I was a stranger. “We met our dad,” Liam said, his voice cold and unfamiliar. Evan hadn’t just returned; he had reinvented himself as the director of their college program. Even worse, he had poisoned them. He told them I was the one who had kept them away, that I had robbed him of sixteen years of fatherhood.
