Why do your hands fall asleep and you feel tingling in your feet?

You’ve probably experienced this more than once: you’re sitting in the same position for a while, or maybe you slept in an uncomfortable position, and suddenly a hand or foot feels strange, as if it’s asleep. That tingling or numb sensation is so common that we often dismiss it without thinking much of it. But when it happens frequently or for no apparent reason, it’s a sign that something else might be going on in your body.

Tingling, also known as paresthesia, isn’t always cause for alarm, but it is a sign that deserves attention when it occurs frequently. It can have simple and temporary causes, such as pressure on a nerve, but it can also be related to circulatory problems, nutritional deficiencies, or even more serious illnesses that require medical evaluation.
