Jonathan frowned and told me to stop being so dramatic, clearly thinking I was creating unnecessary tension. I reached into my bag, pulled out a folder, and placed it on the coffee table.
Inside were the official loan documents she had signed when her company was on the verge of bankruptcy. Patricia leaned slightly forward and asked what they should look for.
I opened the folder to the last page and pointed to a specific section. Jonathan looked down indifferently, but soon became confused.
“What’s wrong?” Vanessa asked, leaning over his shoulder.
I crossed my arms and looked at him intently. “Do you remember when the bank rejected your loan application?” I asked.
He said nothing, which told me everything. “So I intervened and convinced them to approve it under certain conditions,” I continued.
William interrupted me impatiently, saying they already knew I had helped pay off the debt. I nodded and turned back to the page.
“That’s true, but none of you bothered to read the ownership clause included in this agreement,” I said clearly.
Jonathan’s face paled as he looked back at the document. “Lauren, what are you saying?” he whispered.
Vanessa seemed upset and asked for clarification. I remained calm while I explained it to her.
“The clause stipulates that whoever guarantees and repays the loan in full with their own funds becomes the principal owner of all the company’s assets,” I said.
Silence filled the room as the meaning settled in his mind. Jonathan’s hands trembled as he reread the page.
“It can’t be true,” she said weakly.
“That is absolutely true, and his lawyer explained it to him the day he signed,” I replied.
Patricia jumped up, insistently asking what kind of nonsense this was. I took out another document and placed it next to the first one.
“This is the bank’s official confirmation that the loan was fully repaid this morning with my own funds,” I said.
Vanessa’s confidence vanished as she faced reality. Jonathan seemed to have suffered an irreversible blow.
“You’re lying,” he said, though without conviction.
I looked him in the eye. “As of 9:42 this morning, I have become the majority shareholder of Brooks Logistics,” I said clearly.
William slammed his hand on the table, insisting it was Jonathan’s company. I bowed my head slightly.
“Not anymore,” I said.
Jonathan rushed towards me, accusing me of deceiving him. I raised an eyebrow and asked him if I had deceived him or if he simply hadn’t read carefully what he had signed.
Vanessa looked at him, confused, asking why he had told her he owned everything. He didn’t know what to say.
I leaned in a little closer and reminded him of what I’d said before: that this would be my last day in that house. He swallowed and confirmed it in a low voice.
“Well, there’s one more thing you forgot,” I said, looking around the room.
Her voice was barely audible when she asked me what I meant. I smiled.
“This house was bought with company funds,” I said calmly.
Patricia gasped as she saw Jonathan’s eyes widen in horror. For the first time, everyone understood where the real power lay.
The silence grew thick as Jonathan stared at me, feeling as if his world were crumbling around him. He insisted it was impossible, but I remained seated calmly across from him.
“It’s very likely,” I said.
Vanessa stood there, nervous, demanding an explanation. Jonathan ignored her, flipping through the documents as if he expected them to change.
Finally, William asked me what I planned to do next. I answered without hesitation.
“As the majority shareholder of Brooks Logistics, I have legal control over all of the company’s activities,” I explained.
Then I slowly gestured toward the room. “That includes this property as well.”
Patricia’s voice trembled when she asked if it meant what she thought it meant. I nodded.
Jonathan collapsed on the sofa while Vanessa looked completely lost. She asked me if I was saying the house was mine.
—Technically, yes —I replied.
Jonathan grabbed my arm, begging me to speak. Gently, I removed his hand and reminded him of his own words.
“I thought today was my last day here,” I said.
He tried to backtrack, but it was too late. I reminded him that he had introduced me to his lover, and he told me to leave.
Vanessa became furious and demanded to know why he had said they were already separated. Jonathan yelled at her to shut up, making the situation even worse.
I lay back and spoke softly. “For three years, I thought I was building a future with my husband,” I said.
Jonathan lowered his head.
“But apparently, I was just financing her new life with someone else,” I continued.
Vanessa crossed her arms and said that maybe I should have been a better wife. Jonathan looked horrified, but I told him to let her speak.
She insisted that he deserved someone more interesting. I nodded slowly.
“That’s right,” I said, standing up.
—Now she is free to live that exciting life—I added calmly.
Jonathan seemed hopeful for a brief moment until I finished. “But not in my company,” I said.
Her face froze as confusion returned. I slipped her one last envelope.
“This is a notice from the board of directors,” I explained.
He insisted there was no whiteboard, but I corrected him. “Now there is.”
Inside was an official dismissal letter. “As the majority shareholder, I have called an emergency meeting this afternoon,” I said.
Jonathan read it with trembling hands. “You fired me,” he whispered.
I nodded.
Patricia accused me of destroying my husband. I looked at her calmly.
